NECROPOLIS

Commitment to history

Work carried out by the National Museum of Natural History (UNESCO) in the recovery and enhancement of this historical and cultural heritage. The renovation of the San Hilario necropolis in Garray, Soria, not only highlights the importance of preserving the past but also provides a unique opportunity for the public to learn more about the region’s medieval history.

The inclusion of an information panel visible from both the interior and exterior is an educational resource that connects visitors to the past in an accessible and educational way. The history of the site, linked to the 13th-century medieval church of Pancaliente, allows for reflection on life and funerary practices of that period, especially considering that many tombs belonged to children.

Demarcating and marking the area ensures that the site is respected and preserved, while becoming a place of interest for visitors and local residents. This effort not only protects the historical legacy but can also boost cultural tourism in Soria, linking history with the present.
